DEDICATED TO:
GEORGE MACDONALD
(1824-1905)
Huntly native, renowned author, one of Scotlands 19th century
spiritual bards and lifelong lover of Cullen,
To research his newest fictional project, MacDonald returned to this
favourite region of his boyhood for several visits in the early 1870s.
He stayed at the Seafield Arms, in a private residence
on Grant Street, and visited Cullen House.
Many local tales from residents and fishermen found
their way into the pages of MacDonald's memorable
companion novels set in Cullen and its environs-
Malcolm (1875) and The Marquis of Lossie (1877).
