  7. I was so happy to discover Miss Jenkins (as I knew her) had a bench dedicated to her in Holland Park. I was a pupil at Allendale School between 1982 and 1985 and that period was full of happy memories. We would often go for lunch in Holland Park. The school has long since closed but it is lovely to see Miss Jenkins and Allendale School remembered this way. Lovely to see the photos too.

  8. I miss you very much Nanny

  9. For the longest time now ive been walking past this bench when ever im feeling well enough as ive got ppms and struggle with the left hand side of my body and my memory is being effected. One sunny day i sat down on this bench resting. And listening to the birds singing and noticed susan,s name on the bench,so i said hello and asked in my mind if she,d mind helping me with my memory by every time i walk that route id tty and remember her name by the time i got to the bench. 36. This is almost certainly the Lionel Selwyn who was active in the William Morris society almost from the start, and has an obituary on their site:

His practical contributions to the Society came in thc form of his consistent and bracing advice on typography - it is to Lionel that we owe to a large extent the quality of the programmes, letter-headings and publications of the Society in recent years - and as a member, and later Chair, of the Programme Committee, responsible for arranging all the Society's public events. Under Lionel's leadership the programme was lively and varied, and meticulously planned. But above all his contribution was on the human leveL He could always be relied upon to be present, quietly in the background, and to undertake those backroom activities that make public events possible.

I hope we can keep their memories alive and send good energy their way.

  125. Had to manually add the location, as none of the images for this bench were geotagged for some reason. It may therefore be a little off.

She always appeared to enjoy her retirement and kept busy including volunteering at Citizens Advice. A good neighbour and a good soul. The location of the bench is just right, overlooking a scene she must of walked past many times. I bet she would laugh at her house selling for nearly half a million pounds!

  149. Favourite bench in Wellington by far

  150. it’s not even there anymore destroyed by vandals

  151. Thank-you so much for having this bench on the internet. Lauren was my daughter. In what can only be described as an Act of God, her sister was born 08.08.03 in the early morning at what would have been the same time her sister died. A year to the day, if not the hour. For many, many years, her death was unexplained and the guilt from the unknown was crushing. Then, one day a diagnosis came that changed everything. Life can be strange with its twists and turns & some people ride that roller coaster blindfolded - no matter if they bought a ticket for a merry-go-round.

  152. I believe that the date of death is actually 13 Jun 2004 (not 2001 as stated in the title)

  153. Sadly the old bench was so badly rotten that it was not possible to repair it. The Canal and River Trust volunteers at Hillmorton Locks have replaced the bench with a new low maintenance bench in March 2024

Happier times walking the dogs with my folks still alive. I was lucky enough to see Scott after along time not visiting Scots field and I cried that he was still around. Today I saw the bench and cried again. Tears for his owners. And my memories. What a beautiful tribute to a beautiful horse. Always called that field Scott's field.

  233. Does anyone know why in particular Weymouth is the location for a memorial bench for the Barham? I have some relatives who lived (and decendants still live) in Weymouth, so am wondering if there is a family connection - my grandfathers son, James Leighton, died in the sinking. Many thanks. My email is jrleighton (at gmail).
  234. This is bending the rules a bit - it's clearly not a memorial bench and though it does have an inscription, the inscription is not attached to the benches. But they are benches, and there is an inscription.
