In the opening scenes of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe heroine Lucy meets faun Mr Tümnus under a gas lamp in a snowy woodland.
Author C. S. Lewis studied at Malvern College, and visited Malvern as an adult too. Gas lamps were more common then, but Malvern is rare
today in having so many surviving lamps in use. Whether or not Lewis
was inspired by gas lamps on the wooded paths to Malvern's hills, they certainly create an atmospheric spot where even now you can easily imagine yourself in Narnia heritage
