PILKINGTON BOROUGH METEOROLOGIST 1924 - 62 The Met Office Weather Station near this seat has been in existence since 1867 One of the longest serving Meteorologists was Miss Edith Pilkington, the first official female Meteorologist in the World! She served as Borough Meteorologist from 1924 to 1962. This seat was placed in the Pavilion Gardens after her death in 1986. The seat was later severely damaged and removed. The "Friends of Buxton Station" renovated the seat, and placed it here in 2019. The seat is just by the weather station which Miss Pilkington visited every day for 40 years!
